Why foster

Why Foster?

New Routes’ Foster Carers are people that open their hearts and homes to provide care to other people’s children. It can be challenging but is one of the most rewarding things you can do.

Children and young people in the care system are particularly vulnerable and Foster Carers can help them to feel safe, secure, protected and loved. By offering them a safe and nurturing home, you’ll help them to develop and reach their full potential. Whether they stay with you for a few days or more permanently, fostering can have a positive impact on a child or young person’s life.

Fostering can also make a positive difference to birth children. Understanding the challenges that some children face helps build compassion and empathy for others. Positive friendships can also develop between foster children and birth children as they spend time together.

By becoming a Foster Carer, you will join a team of professionals, which offers you the chance to gain new knowledge and skills. You will undertake a wide range of training opportunities including Safeguarding and Child Protection, First Aid, Internet Safety and more. This will help you in your fostering career as well as providing transferable skills.

Pay and Allowances

At New Routes we value our Foster Carers as part of our professional team and offer a competitive allowance that reflects their time, experience and skills. You will also receive additional allowances including loyalty payments, holiday allowances, and extra allowances for birthdays and religious festivals such as Christmas, Diwali and Eid.
