Fostering Application Process
We need different types of foster carers to meet the diverse needs of children and young people that enter the care system. You can explore which types of fostering you would like to offer during your assessment process.
The foster care journey
At New Routes Fostering there will be one person supporting you through the application and approval process to become a foster carer. The whole process usually takes 6-8 months from your initial enquiry and the steps to becoming a foster carer are outlined below:

Initial enquiry
You contact New Routes about fostering.
Step 2
Home visit
We arrange a visit to your home to meet you.
Step 3
Preparation
You undertake training in preparation to become a foster carer.
Step 4
Application
You complete the Application Form (Form F).
Step 5
Assessment
We carry out the assessment process.
Step 6
Panel
The fostering panel make a decision on whether to approve you as a foster carer.
Step 7
Post Approval
You undertake the Training Standards Development.
Step 8
Matching
We match you to a child in need of a home.
